Back in the mid to late 1960's, I remember seeing an expose' on Channel 7 (now KMGH) about this cave. I remember clearly their showing a red cross by the side of the entrance. Inside was a shaft and a tunnel that went back to a table and possibly a chair. I'm not sure if there was anything else. When they tried to explore the shaft, they apparently only made it about have way from their description.
I've always wondered if 'd ever hear about the mine(?) again until now. I would like to know more.

Comment on Forest Service Seeks Public Comments Regarding Colorado Cave Closure Order by Parker Call

I am very disappointed in the discrimination shown by excluding responsible cavers not members of these two private groups from revisiting and enjoying Colorado's caves. It seems either ignorant or arrogant to assume that only these two private groups can understand, respect and care for Colorado's caves. As a resident of Colorado for close to three decades I have enjoyed exploring Spring Cave nearly a dozen times prior to it's closure. My caving gear has been used exclusively in Spring Cave only. Often I have taken small groups of older scouts and explorer scouts into Spring cave teaching them to appreciate and safely enjoy Colorado's natural resources. I have missed exploring "thunder road", "Jones beach" and the viewing of the crystal clear pools and streams. Now with the current ban and your new policy, responsible public cavers are discriminated against in favor of groups who are most likely to spread contaminants from their gear used in caves infected by white nose syndrome. Oddly, I have never come across a bat in Spring Cave, though it seems like an ideal habitat for them. Granted I have never visited Spring cave later than October (poor winter access with all the snow) when bats might use the cave to hibernate in. Instead of using the "buddy system" to hand out permits to friends only, I believe educating the public and allowing all responsible and educated public members to have the opportunity to receive permits would be better public policy. Perhaps banning cave access for all groups from November to March or April would sufficiently protect hibernating bats from White Nose Syndrome (even though it has not been found in this cave system). Or better yet ban caving gear used outside of Colorado or cavers who are not residents of Colorado. The ones being permitted now are cavers from out of state who are most likely to transmit White Nose Syndrome to Colorado through contaminated gear (assuming human transmission is even possible). I hope for a future when we can once again enjoy the caves we grew up with and for decades have respected and protected. Parker Call

We took a group of 15 up to Fulford today with the intent of going into the cave. Was very surprised to see that the closure was extended another year since their was no information in that regard found in googling. Very disappointing to our group. Should publish something regarding the closure extension so that others don't waste their time driving up there.

Caving is a very popular activity in Colorado. And all of sudden you take it away. There are a lot of angry cavers out in the state right now! Whoever's idea this was Shane on them! I belive it more about power than it is about the bats. What about the stuff that they put in our food that's causing us cancer? That's spreading around. Is anyone paying attention to that? It's a disgrace!

It's bad enough that a young man's parents must have this cave be their son's tomb but to leave their son in "nutty putty", forever entombed in, stuck in nutty putty has got to be beyond the pale. They're probably wishing the cave had been named something a little more dignified.
